【Special Autumn Exhibition】 "We Love Egypt: Showa Period in Japan and Ancient Egypt "

27 September, 2025 - 24 November, 2025 【Special Autumn Exhibition】 "We Love Egypt: Showa Period in Japan and Ancient Egypt"
The circulating exhibition of Tutankhamun in 1965, which toured Tokyo, Kyoto and Fukuoka attracting over 2.9 million visitors, is a symbol of Japanese fascination with ancient Egypt. However, in fact, designs featuring ancient Egyptian motifs had been used in Japan long before the Tutankhamun exhibition, appearing in various aspects of daily life. This autumn special exhibition introduces the Egyptian pattern boom in Japan, centred on the late 1950s and early 1970s, through the collection held by The Showa Era Lifestyle Museum (Kitanagoya City in Aichi prefecture), offering a glimpse into Japanese society at that time. It lets us to explore the interest and fascination the Japanese people of that era held for ancient Egypt, and to observe their way of life.
