Close-Up Gallery: Digging Up the Indus Civilization
Sat 14 February 2015 - Sun 29 March 2015 Close-Up Gallery Digging Up the Indus Civilization
This year, the annual spring exhibition of the Japanese archeological expeditions abroad will feature the excavations in South Asia.
Although the Indus Civilization is one of the great ancient civilizations, it is less known in Japan compared with the civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, and China.
This is because only a few Japanese researchers conducted field work in India and Pakistan, where the Indus Civilization flourished.
Recently, however, the Japanese interdisciplinary project of the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature, Kyoto, Japan, led by Dr. Toshiki Osada, has performed excavations at sites in Farmana and Kanmer together with Indian research institutes and has highly contributed to the Indus Civilization archeology.
Dr. Akinori Uesugi—who supervised the entire process of this exhibition—has participated in many excavations and surveys in order to investigate the Indus Civilization, including the Indus project described above; He has also worked at the site of Mitathal as the co-director of the excavation team.
This exhibition will present new discoveries about the beginning, flourish, and decline of the Indus Civilization, mainly through poster presentations.
